TDMR Europe to host webinar on the role of TDR weight loss in enhancing employability

Posted On: 15th May 2025

As the obesity crisis continues to pose a serious public health threat across both the EU and the UK, policymakers are seeking safe and cost-effective ways to support individuals living with obesity in managing their weight.

With obesity contributing to relatively high rates of worklessness, the condition is also becoming recognised as a broader economic challenge. In this context, there has been increasing discussion around the role of effective weight management in facilitating a return to work.

Emerging evidence suggests that total diet replacements (TDRs) are well-positioned to serve as effective tools within a holistic approach to addressing the obesity crisis across the EU and the UK. Against this backdrop, TDMR Europe will host a webinar with leading experts in food nutrition and osteoarthritis to explore the latest scientific developments surrounding TDRs.

The online seminar will feature:

  • Professor Michael Lean, University of Glasgow, discussing the ReDiRECT trial and its implications for ‘long Covid’ and ‘return to work’
  • Professor Hamish Simpson, Professor of Orthopaedics, Queen Mary University of London, discussing the ‘opportunity’ trial of TDR within a ‘package of care’ for osteoarthritis
  • Dr Kelly Johnston, Kings College London and Ligherlife UK, presenting on the proven role of TDR in addressing the need for safe and effective weight loss

The webinar will take place from 14:00 to 15:00 BST on Tuesday 20 May. To join the event, please sign up here.
